Description
Breed-specific legislation (BSL) bans or restricts certain types of dogs based on their appearance because they are perceived as “dangerous” breeds or types of dogs.
A breed ban usually requires that all dogs of a certain appearance (“targeted breed”) be removed from the area wherein the BSL has been implemented.
Breed-specific restrictions may require an owner of a targeted breed do any of the following or more, depending on how the law is written:
- Muzzle the dog in public
- Spay or neuter the dog
- Contain the dog in a kennel with specific requirements (6′ chain link walls, lid, concrete floors, etc.)
- Keep the dog on a leash of specific length or material
- Purchase liability insurance of a certain amount
- Place “vicious dog” signs on the outside of the residence where the dog lives
- Make the dog wear a “vicious dog” tag or other identifying marker
Breed-specific legislation applies only to dogs of a certain appearance, not to any and all dogs. It does not take into account how the owner has raised, trained, or managed the dog. It does not take into account the dog’s actual behavior.
I am sorry but I own a pitbull (who is loving and kind) and I agree with many things listed above. We need to be responsible Pit owners!!! We need to muzzle our dogs on walks or whenever they are not in their enclosers…not because our dogs are vicious but what about other people dogs? Male pits should be nutered as it is a proven fact it stops them from becoming agressive. This link was sent to me but I agree that they need to put laws on them as well as other breed of dogs (and they have). If people would be responsible then this wouldnt happen…so this is a way to MAKE people be responsible!
THEN MUZZLE YOUR DOGS AND LEAVE MY FAMILY AND COMMUNITY THE HELL ALONE!
How about you keep your family, and animals away from our dogs. Most attacks are because of people not watching their children who are teasing our dogs and other animals who are vicious to our dogs…it just happens to be that Pits are much stronger then most breeds. Humans can tell you to leave us the f*** alone but a dog can only growl so much befor he/she gets pissed just like a human. Blame our dogs but think about what happened at the time. Most pits do not just attack a human or another dog unless its a careless owner who does not know how to raise a pit. Maybe you should do some research on pits…they are the most loyal loveing smart breed out there!!
I’M not sure how this turned on me I don’t think it is fair to have to carry insurance or muzzle my animals anytime. My dogs are not the problem. These kinds of issues need to be dealt with in another manner, ( I don’t want to fight with you) one that is not so intrusive on families and animals that are not the source of the problem. The breed needs something constructive! For instance I would be open to having a mandatory class on how to properly care for and train pit bulls. Maybe even a license, But muzzle my animal and give more money to another w reckless insurance company. I’m not open to that!
I am open and willing to talk more about ways we can help our breed and weed out the bad apples, with out making all owners jump through more hoops to own such a wonderful breed.
